Facebook malware outbreak!
The world social networking giant Facebook has been hit by a malware! This malware is said to have infected 110,000 accounts within 2dayz alone and the figure is on the rise! People are always tempted to click on links that are shared by friends, which many endup into been hacked or infected by a malware, which sometimes is very frustrating. Imagine having your Parents and relatives on Facebook and malware tagged them on a pornographic post! Disguising as you! Shocked! That will surely be a hell on earth. This is exactly what the malware does! And who ever click the picture or link is infected! The malware will randomly tagged 20 peoples out of your Facebook friends. Attackers used used malware techniques named magnet. This technique help in tagging facebook friends to such malicious post.
According to Muhammad Faghani a senior consultant at PriceWaterhouseCoopers in an email sent to Full Disclosure infosec hangout. "in the new technique, which we call Magnet, the victims by tagging the friends of the victim in the malicious post"
This links presents itself like adobe flash player update. it will prompt you to download the flash playerupdate which will enable you watch the pornographic video content. Once clicked! The a malware is installed on the users windows machine. This trojan will allow the attacker take control of your PC keyboard and mouse. By getting control over this input devices it will be very easy to get accessnto users confidential data. Sensitive data like passwords and bank information and other sensitive credentials are vulnerable to the attacker.
After successful installation the malware or trojan will try to communicate with servers from filmver.com and pornokan.com for more instructions! This really sound scary!
Antivirus like norton offered an additional service which helps in scanning your Facebook wall for such bogus links, but we all knew Norton internet security cost more than 40 USD for a one year subscription.
Users have to be very careful and vigilant, by not clicking every link you see on Facebook, especially porn links.
Facebook is trying it best to stop the spread of such malware and links.
One thing is certain! This attacks will not stop and viruses trojans or malwares are always discovered after they have completed or almost completed their purpose of creation! Users has to be very careful! make sure you install all software patches to enhance security.
